Cabot Trail, Cape Breton, NS

We started the adventure with an additional party member in the form of Kenting's uncle, who was here on vacation. Rest assured we all had a hell of a time!

I had zero intention of documenting the trip at this point, so this is being written about a month after the fact (we went around mid-July). The pictures here are far from comprehensive.

We camped in the Parks Canada site at Broad Cove, Cape Breton National Park. I would highly recommend this site, as it has a lovely beach attached. Ingonish Beach, about a 30 minute drive away, is also quality.

The Cabot Trail might be a bit overrated (I wouldn’t, for example, fly all the way from South Korea to do the drive, though I’m sure it’s been done). That being said, I’m assuming it’s spectacular during high autumnal leaves season, if your timing is lucky enough.

Either way, it’s a nice place, and I know my photos haven’t done it justice. I was a bit occupied making sure my breaks weren’t nuked on those crazy declines (being a rookie, I learned the hard way about the importance of gearing down with an RV when things get steep).

If you’re into hiking though, there are a ton of trails.

We almost killed ourselves on Franey Trail, which took about 4 hours altogether. Nice view from the peak though.

The highlight of Cabot was probably the beaches.

We managed to make a sunrise at Broad Cove Beach on our last morning.

As a matter of course, we also got a pint in at Big Spruce Brewery (and picked some up for the road). I've always found their beers to be top of the line in among Nova Scotia beers. Nice spot for a couple afternoon ice waters, really.

By day 3 we were happy enough to move on to the North Sydney ferry bound for Port-aux-Basques, Newfoundland.

One last note: these kinds of trips are a collaborative effort when it comes to driving, and Kenting is always keen to get behind the wheel when called upon, as you can see. Drive on!
