Appointments and Inspections in Calgary

On the way to Calgary my wife took the wheel so I could make arrangements to get four new tires in the back and an inspection of the vehicle as soon as possible. We also had to work around a vet appointment and a meeting with the Canada Food Inpsection Agency so that Kenting could be "exported" to South Korea.

The tire appointment was easy enough--we got an appointment for that afternoon. The inspection took some doing, but a company that mostly works on large freight trucks but is certified to inspect RVs slotted us in the next day. It makes a huge difference to be in a city of some size. Had we remained in the smaller towns we were looking at a two week delay.

So, we were forced to check into a hotel for the night. After all, if our house on wheels is in the shop, then we become effectively homeless. This is a bit more difficult to manage with a dog.

I left wife and dog in the hotel and got the tires on that afternoon. It went off without a hitch and the boys at Fountain Tire were nothing but class.

Kenting enjoyed having a bed for a change.

That afternoon the prospective buyers came to see the vehicle. I wanted to leave no stone unturned so that they knew what they were getting--a beautiful little motorhome with a lot of life left despite its age. They took it for a test drive and had no complaints. As long as the inspection the next day revealed nothing unexpected, the deal was going ahead.

So, we all passed the night together away from the Kodiak for the first time in months (even in Edlonton Kenting and I slept inside the RV) and the next morning I took the vehicle for its final judgment.

I wasn't that concerned, but... you just never know with these inspections.

Thankfully, there were only minor issues. This meant the vehicle we enjoyed owning so much would no longer be ours. In the long run, I will miss the running bear, but in those circumstances there was nothing but relief. Not that I was too worried...

This set up our final night with the Kodiak, as we had agreed with the buyers to bring it to them the next day.

We drove on to have our final night with our house on wheels.
